Life Force was organized in the early seventies by Joe Jennings and Howard Nicholson as an outlet for original material, as well as a unit to perform the works of the master composers of the

“jazz idiom.” Throughout its existence, life force has been featured in clubs, festivals, and colleges around the country.

Life Force has had a long relationship with Young Audiences of Atlanta, Inc. in the Young audiences’ programs, Life Force explores the improvisational approaches used by important figures int eh evolution of jazz music. During these performances, Jennings and Nicholson perform the actual solos of Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and Ornette Coleman, and discuss their styles.

Life Force continues to serve as a performance outlet for some of the finest musicians in the Southeast. In February, 1994, Life Force had the honor of being selected to perform at the 1994 Winter games in Lillehammer, Norway, as a part of the Cultural Olympiad’s Exchange program. Life Force also featured their original material at the 1994 Atlanta Jazz Festival, at Just Us Theater’s “Club Zebra” during the 1993 national Black Arts Festival, and at the 1991 North Sea Jazz Festival in Haag, Netherlands.
