CGC is a 10-15 piece Afrobeat-Soul orchestra based in Atlanta, GA that functions under the musical direction of Mausiki Scales, who also serves as keyboardist for the group.

In addition to his role as a bandleader and keyboardist, Scales works as a professor in the Morehouse College history department. CGC samples musical styles from West Africa, including Afro beat to the Funk-Jazz styling’s from "round ‘da way" and seeks to explore the musical thread that links the music of Africans worldwide.

The foundation of CGC's sonic delivery is Afrobeat, a musical style created by Nigerian multi-instrumentalist Fela Kuti. This style of music is characterized by highly energetic-endless grooves by the rhythm section with percussive roots that are found in traditional Yoruba music, Highlife and James Brown inspired funk. The band has a dynamic horn section that features tight/hot/percussive lines and jazz solos, call-and-response chants delivered by the lead and background vocalists and African dancers. CGC’s complete funk fusion is undeniably infectious!
